LONA GAIKIS

Lona Gaikis, philosopher and project lead of PHANTOM LAB, asks how empirical aesthetics is expanded by damaged bodies. She investigates to what extent the feeling of prostheses, and the sensation of phantom limbs are aesthetic experiences, and whether these sensations can be conveyed to undamaged bodies.  As a founding member of the research group “Towards an Aesthetics for Prosthetics”, she is interested in neurophysiological experiments that explore and record body-feeling to speculate various ways of expanding and learning about perception with alien objects.
